While this may not normally be the time of the year for cleaning out those closets (little late for fall cleaning and a little early for spring cleaning), but after reviewing an earlier post about “National Clean Out Your Closet Week”, I started thinking about some things that could possibly be cleaned out NOW and put to good use. This is the time of year that the lower grades in school (perhaps kindergarten and first grade), as well as the pre-k and pre-school programs could probably put some of your older “time to discard” items to use.
** Old jewelry and beads would certainly be welcomed at your child’s school or your grandchildren’s school to use for making Christmas tree ornaments and decorations.
** If you have a large supply of old or “one or two left from a project” buttons, the children could also use them to glue to construction paper to make interesting designs.
** In line with the buttons, how about extra non used trims and laces. Our 5 year old quadruplet grandbabies and their big 6 year old brother LOVE to decorate construction paper or empty toilet tissue rolls I’ve saved. The buttons and trims make excellent decorations and keep the kids occupied and it’s amazing what they will come up with.
** If you’ve used and have any extra faux fur, the children might even be able to make some furry animals on their construction paper.
Take a quick look around and see if you have some little crafty items that could be used by the schools. If all the schools are like ours, and the economy like it is, any little bit of goodies donated to the classes will be greatly appreciated. If you have donated things to your local schools in the past, let us know what you’ve done, and I’m sure that will inspire the rest of us to do the same.
In the same way, I have donated supplies to church for Sunday School projects and I suppose libraries that have story time and crafts could use supplies too.
