Fabric tubes are very easy to make and there are many ways to use them. A basic tube could be approximately 18″ long x 4″ wide. You’d simply fold the fabric in half lengthwise and sew the long side. Turn inside out, fold under one of the ends and hand sew the opening closed, then lightly stuff the open end with polyester fiberfil. How easy is that! Well, here are three ways to use those tubes — each comes with it’s own tutorial.
Lisa at TheHemline blogspot has made a darling pair of children’s slippers out of the tubes. You can see her tutorial by clicking on the above link. Here is what the finished product looks like:
OR, you can use tubes to make a tube cushion for chairs, as I have done on my blog, SarahJDoyle.com. The tutorial for the tube cushion is very easy to make. As I was making the tube cushion for the tutorial, my 4 year old quadruplet grandbabies kept saying “I wishI had one of those!”, so it looks like I’ll be making a few more! Here’s the finished product on the cushion:
OR, you can make a full blown quilt out of the tubes, as you can see in the following diagram
The instructions for the quilt tutorial are at PatternsThatFitYou.com, under the “free classes / tutorials” heading.
If you have other fabric “tube” ideas or projects, we’d love to see them.
