By now most schools have started and altering the school uniforms or regular store bought pants, shorts and skirts can be difficult. I’ve always felt that by making the school clothes, you only have to alter the pattern once, then begin making all the skirts, shorts and pants that you need. However, in this day of school uniforms and even jeans and other types of long pants and shorts, there are fitting issues that must be done individually on each one of the garments.
A perfect example of this is my 5 year old grandson who just started kindergarten this year. His school requires uniforms, so there was no “sewing” his clothes. He is a big boy, and while size 6 pants and shorts were too tight around the tummy for him to fasten, the next size (size 8) were too big around the middle and too long.
We used buttonhole elastic to fix the waistband, which was perfect! Check out my mini tutorial on my SarahJDoyle.com blog to see how we fixed the waist problem — here’s the finished product!
You can get buttonhole elastic on ebay and be able to alter your childs’ shorts, skirts and pants waists!
