Email Catch Words to Get Your Messages Opened

June 11, 2009 by S. Denise Hoyle Leave a Comment

According to a report from MailerMailer, the top ten terms used by email marketers in subject lines are:

        10)    week
          9)    holiday
          8)    update
          7)    com
          6)    sale
          5)    night
          4)    free
          3)    newsletter
          2)    party
          1)    news

In addition to the top ten most popular keywords, the report reveals the best and worst performing industries, and lots of interesting email metric information.  For example, the return for every dollar spent on Internet marketing is $19.94, while the return on investment (ROI) is more than double for email marketing at $45.06.

We talked in a post last week about how the “real money is in the list”, and this study provides more proof.  This means that for every dollar you’re spending to market your business online, at least half of it should be dedicated to building, maintaining and communicating with an email list of your prospects/customers.

There are a number of professional email marketing companies that will make it easy for you to get started, or automate your process of collecting addresses and sending them messages.  iContact starts at $9.95/month, Constant Contact is $15/month plus a free 60 day trial  and AWeber starts at $19/month.  We use AWeber and have been impressed by their customer service and how easy their service is to use, but all three of these professional list services have good reputations.
