We recently talked with Andrew Martin, Marketing Director of OnlineFabricStore.net, and he shared some valuable insight about current and future trends in fabrics. Martin says that the entire fabric industry is experiencing a shift toward organic and eco friendly fabrics and that sewing professionals would do well to stay on top of this new direction. He sees a real opportunity to stay at the forefront by being able to help consumers to “go green” in other areas of their lives. For example – home decorators and restaurants can provide organic tablecloths and napkins; bibs, comforters and diapers could be made from eco fibers; and seamstresses and fashion designers can dress brides and fashionistas in earth friendly designs.
As Martin says, “the sewing business is really much more than about business, isn’t it? It’s about creating things that become part of people’s lives. It’s about creating things that have the ability to make others’ lives richer. That’s the beauty of people who sew. We’re happy to be able to help with that.”
Indeed, a number of OnlineFabricStore’s twelve full-time employees sew, and some did it professionally before joining their staff. The online store has been operating for three years, but the staff have a “ballpark” of ninety years of sewing experience. Their mission is to provide “great fabric, a great shopping experience and great prices”, so be sure to ask the helpful people at OnlineFabricStore.net any of your fabric questions. Also, check out their volume discounts and their current sale that boasts the “cheapest decorator fabric prices in a decade”
