Maria Pinto is hardly new to the business with over 20 years of experience as a fashion designer, but even though she’s well known in Chicago she has only recently gained national exposure thanks to Michelle Obama wearing her pieces on the campaign trail last year. (check out our previous post on Pinto)
Well last week Pinto went to the Oscar dressing derby in Los Angeles for the first time, hoping to get some exposure in Hollywood. She set up a couple dozen gowns on racks in a Beverly Hills hotel room and invited stylists to come take a look in hopes that one of her designs will end up on the red carpet. She also competed to have her design worn onstage at the Academy Awards by an “Awards Escort” at the annual Oscar preview fashion show.
Although her clothes are not currently available in L.A., Pinto hopes to change that soon, and we’ll know on Sunday whether any of her styles will be seen at the Oscars. Read more about Pinto in the Los Angeles Times, or visit her website at MariaPinto.com.
