It makes no difference whether you have a brick and mortar store, work out of your garage, sell only at craft shows, have an etsy store or have a website, the question of the day is — do you have a blog?
I’m sure nearly everyone has seen various types of blogs or even subscribe to some that they like to read on a daily basis. But do YOU have one?
If you have products that you are selling, you most certainly need a blog. By writing posts each day or at least several times a week, you can talk about your products, talk about the latest craft show and tell about the most popular items (of course these are items that you’d be happy to sell to those who read your blog!).
Most blogs have advertising along the side bars; Amazon ads or google advetisements, or something similar – you are able to make a little extra money if people click on those ads and perhaps order some items. But what about putting a few of your own items along the side bar with a link back to your etsy store or to your website. Look at the sidebar of this SewingBusiness blog — you’ll see among the “recommended reading” a link to “How To Start and Operate a Profitable Clothing Alteration Business“, and “Sewing Machine Repair As A Home Business” — which are business manuals that the two of us who write this blog have available.
In addition, you can write a review about one of your specialty products – perhaps the one that was a barn burner at the last craft show – let everyone who reads your blog know what it is, how it works and what’s special about it. Of course, don’t forget to put a link to where the readers can go check it out and perhaps buy it.
If you don’t currently have a blog, we highly recommend that you consider starting one. You might be surprised how it can help to increase your business.
