Interview with Stacy Schlyer of Stacy Sews!

July 20, 2008 by S. Denise Hoyle Leave a Comment

Stacy Schlyer of StacySews.com says she’s a self-taught sewer who’s been sewing for 9 or 10 years.  “After spending maternity leave watching Sandra Betzina’s program on HGTV I finally decided to take the plunge and start sewing myself.  I purchased a (relatively) inexpensive machine, a few basic notions, a pattern and material and set to work on making my first project.”  Now Schlyer enjoys making some extra money selling gorgeous handcrafted pear shaped pin cushions and the like at her Stacy Sews Studio, and she shares tutorials for fun and creative projects in her online “diary of a fabric junkie” at StacySews.com.

Schlyer’s blog is a lively place full of her sewing adventures, sewing news, interesting links to sewing related items, book reviews, and every type of project from clothing and home decor items to quilts, plush, and reconstructed items.  Schlyer says the project vary “depending on what I’m interested in making, what my family has requested, or what the situation demands.  Generally the items that I post in my etsy shop are those that I can’t stop myself from making (for example fun eye pillows filled with rice and scented with lavender) or those that I’ve created a tutorial for and are using them for ‘photo shoots’ (for example pear pincushions).”

Come join in the fun at StacySews.com but be warned – you’ll likely find a project that you can’t resist starting right away.  I’m seriously considering this swimsuit pattern that she wrote about earlier this week!
