Musician and Fashion Designer with a Day Job

June 29, 2008 by S. Denise Hoyle Leave a Comment

Joleen Rumsey (right) waits on customers at Field’s Fabrics store during the day, is a member of a band called The Icicles by night, and on the side she’s co-owner of fashion design label Flutter Fashion, along with Rachel Six (left), another local fashion designer.

The duo, who met at the fabric shop, design and sew one-of-a-kind knit tops.  Their hip designs often mix unusual colors and designs and retail on the internet for between $50 and $70.

The partners create their designs together, then sew independently and split all profits.  Six, who is a skin care specialist by day, says “I would never do it alone. It’s so much more fun to work together. We feed off each other.”

Rumsey is in charge of making outfits for her bandmates, in addition to playing keyboard and singing vocals for The Icicles for the past eight years.
