Interview with Amy Adams of Lucykate Crafts

At 19 Amy Adams began work on her design degree and she credits that experience for learning to sew “properly”.  She says her Lucykate Crafts shop where she sells gorgeous three dimensional needlecraft owls, toadstools, pillows and the like is ironic because “I hated needlework at school, and my Mum tried to teach me how to knit as a child and I really struggled to do it. But, while I was on my art foundation course, the year before my degree, I went to see an historical textiles exhibition and it was the stumpwork that caught my eye and made me decide to go into textile design.”

Adams has worked professionally designing needlecraft kits for Coats Crafts UK under the Anchor brand for over a decade and says her work there “has grown into a passion for working three dimensionally with fabric, felt and embroidery.”  Adams left her job while pregnant with her second child and is currently working part-time while her young children are at school or nursery – you can see her handmade crafts in her online shop at http://lucykatecrafts.etsy.com or visit her blog at http://lucykatecrafts.blogspot.com.  Adams makes all types of crafts to sell, takes commissions, designs projects for craft books and magazines and still occasionally works for her former employer.

Adams says her main goal is to write a crafts project book and that she posts tutorials for projects on her blog regularly because it helps her to research what types of projects are popular with crafters.  Thanks Amy for my recent favorite project, the strawberry jam jar topper- please be sure to let us know when your book comes out, we’re looking forward to reviewing it!
